Grief Counselling

Grief is not something to “get over.” It is something we learn to carry differently over time.

A Space For Your Grief

At Frangipani House, I offer a gentle, grounded space for people moving through grief and loss. Whether your loss is recent or many years ago, grief has its own rhythm — sometimes quiet, sometimes overwhelming, and often arriving in unexpected waves.

You do not have to walk through it alone.

There is no right way to grieve and no timeline you need to follow.

What you may be experiencing

Grief can come from many kinds of loss, including:

  • The death of a loved one
  • The loss of a relationship or separation
  • The loss of a pet
  • Loss of identity, health, or independence
  • Moving through major life transitions
  • Grief that may not be acknowledged or understood by others
  • The anticipatory grief of illness or dementia

All grief is valid. There is no hierarchy of loss here.

Grief can feel overwhelming, quiet, or confusing. All of these responses are normal.

Grief is a natural response to loss. It has no fixed timeline and no single way it should look.

How grief counselling can support you

  • Having someone to listen to your pain
  • Understand the emotional waves of grief
  • Make space for sadness, anger, numbness, or confusion
  • Speak about your loss without feeling rushed or judged
  • Ease the sense of isolation that can come with grief
  • Reconnect with meaning and small moments of steadiness
  • Learn ways to support your nervous system through overwhelm

Some sessions may be full of words. Others may be quiet. Both are welcome.

grief is a response to loss

Grief is the expression of love after loss. It often arrives in waves, sometimes expected and sometimes surprising.

What Working Together Looks Like

The process is supportive, and tailored to your needs. I'll also provide you with handouts and suggested videos to watch after the session.

1. Reach Out

Give me a call or text me to arrange an appointment. I'll ask for your email address and I'll send you through my practice information, and a client intake form to fill out and return.

2. First Session

The first session I'll ask you to share what's bringing you to counselling. We'll identify what support would feel most helpful, and we'll begin the counselling process.

3. Ongoing Sessions

Sessions are shaped around your needs, and your counselling goals.

Meet Your Therapist

Hi, I’m Kareen Fellows, a degree-qualified counsellor with a deep interest in grief, loss, and emotional healing. I understand that grief can touch every part of life, and that each person experiences loss in their own unique way.

I have sat beside people who are dying, supported individuals through times of sorrow and change, and completed training in the Grief Recovery Method. These experiences have deepened my understanding that grief is not something that should be rushed, judged, or carried alone.

My approach is warm, gentle, and supportive. I aim to create a safe space where you can speak openly, feel heard, and process your experience at your own pace — whether you are grieving the loss of a loved one, facing anticipatory grief, or carrying losses that have remained unresolved for many years.

Taking the Next Step

Grief can feel overwhelming, lonely, and deeply personal. Reaching out for support may feel difficult, especially when you are carrying sadness, shock, or the weight of significant change.

You do not need to “move on” or have everything figured out before seeking support. Counselling offers a gentle, compassionate space where you can be heard, honour your loss, and move through grief at your own pace.
